Canada Squad Changes for SheBelieves Cup
Midfielder Quinn and midfielder/forward Olivia Smith have been forced to withdraw from Canada’s SheBelieves Cup squad due to injuries sustained while playing for their respective clubs. Stepping in to take their places are Emma Regan and Marie-Yasmine Alidou.
Players Overview
Quinn, a staple in the Canadian squad with 100 caps to their name, was recently sidelined due to a concussion after a full 90-minute match in the NWSL. On the other hand, Smith, a rising star with eight Canada caps, has been showcasing her talent in Portugal’s Sporting CP, ranking third in league scoring this season with an impressive nine goals.
Replacing these two vital players are Regan and Alidou. Regan, a versatile fullback/midfielder from HB Koge in Denmark, made her return to the national team last October after a hiatus since her debut in 2018. She most recently appeared in Canada’s victory over Brazil in Halifax.
Meanwhile, Alidou, an experienced midfielder from Benfica in Portugal, also boasts two caps for Canada. Her last appearance was in a dominant 6-0 win over El Salvador at the CONCACAF W Gold Cup earlier this year.
Upcoming Matches
Canada, currently ranked ninth globally, is set to kick off their SheBelieves Cup campaign against Brazil, ranked tenth, while the USA, ranked fourth, will take on Japan, ranked seventh. The winners of these matchups will advance to the final on April 9 in Columbus, with the losers battling it out for third place.
