Runestone Airdrop Sends Over 112,000 Inscriptions to Bitcoin Wallets

The highly anticipated Runestones airdrop occurred late Thursday, distributing Ordinal inscriptions to more than 112,000 Bitcoin wallets. NFT historian and Runestone spokesperson, Leonidas, shared the event’s excitement on Twitter, alerting the community of the approaching 112,383 Runestones. He urged everyone to prepare for the impact of this significant event.

According to the Inscription marketplace Ordi, collectors eager to receive a Runestone in the airdrop needed to visit its Bitcoin Ordinals platform, enter their wallet address, and sort by newest to be eligible for the distribution.

Leonidas expressed that the airdrop was a decentralized, volunteer effort that garnered support from various companies within the Ordinals ecosystem. Over ten entities contributed funds and resources to ensure the airdrop’s successful execution.

Runestone Distribution Details

The Ordi Twitter account revealed that Runestones would be mined and distributed to the year one Ordinals community in 81 batches of 1,400 over the ensuing 48 hours. Leonidas emphasized that participants had earned their Runestone through active engagement within the Ordinals community, as there were no team allocations or pre-sales involved in the process.

Throughout the airdrop, Leonidas provided regular updates on the allocation progress. He indicated that each batch consisted of 1,400 Runestones, with four batches already dispatched within the initial 45 minutes of the airdrop’s commencement. The remaining 76 batches were expected to reach recipients in the subsequent 24 hours.

Partner Collaborations and Market Integration

Behind the scenes, Leonidas acknowledged the involvement of Runestone partner, Ordinalsbots, in facilitating the massive inscription airdrop. Additionally, he highlighted the efforts of Ordinals marketplaces such as Magic Eden and Ordinalswallet, which were actively engaged in indexing the Runestone inscriptions for future trading activities on the secondary market.

As the airdrop unfolded, Magic Eden on Bitcoin confirmed that users would have the opportunity to trade Runestones on their platform, with continuous indexing updates expected over the next 24 hours.

Leonidas reassured participants that there was no shame in selling their Runestones, acknowledging the diverse circumstances and motivations of buyers and sellers within the community.

Earlier this month, a significant milestone was reached as The Runestone, the largest ordinal inscription by block size at 3.97 MB, was auctioned off for 8 BTC, equivalent to approximately $572,973. Leonidas expressed his gratitude to the community for their unwavering support and participation in this monumental event.
