Oklahoma City Thunder Clinches Playoff Berth with Victory over New York Knicks
In a thrilling game on Sunday night, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder secured a crucial victory with a game-winning jumper in the closing seconds, sending his team to the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The Thunder emerged victorious with a narrow 113-112 win over the New York Knicks, propelling them back into sole possession of first place in the competitive Western Conference with a record of 52-22.
Leading the charge for Oklahoma City was Josh Giddey, who recorded an impressive triple-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists. This marked Giddey’s third career triple-double, all of which came against the Knicks. His stellar performance, including 12 crucial points in the fourth quarter, was instrumental in the Thunder’s comeback as they outscored the Knicks 38-27 in the final period.
The Knicks put up a valiant effort, with Jalen Williams putting on an impressive scoring display with 33 points. Gilgeous-Alexander contributed 19 points, including the game-winning shot, while Jalen Brunson led the Knicks with 30 points. Despite Brunson’s efforts, his potential game-winning jumper fell short as the Thunder managed to secure the victory.
In a back-and-forth battle, the Knicks found themselves trailing 111-110 with 18 seconds remaining before Brunson’s layup gave them a momentary lead. However, Gilgeous-Alexander’s clutch shot from the corner dashed the Knicks’ hopes, securing the Thunder’s playoff berth.
Isaiah Hartenstein had a strong showing for the Knicks with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Deuce McBride added 19 points and Donte DiVincenzo chipped in with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
