SpaceX’s Upgraded Launch Pad Prepares for CRS-30 Mission
SpaceX is gearing up for the launch of a Falcon 9 rocket carrying a Dragon cargo ship destined for the International Space Station from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) in Florida. This mission, known as CRS-30, marks the 30th resupply mission to the space station by SpaceX since 2012.
Enhancements at Launch Pad
Recent upgrades at SLC-40 have focused on equipping the pad to support human spaceflight missions using the Crew Dragon spacecraft. The Cargo Dragon capsule, similar in size to the Crew Dragon, will transport over 6,000 pounds of hardware, fresh food, and experiments to the space station.
The newly installed launch tower and crew access arm at SLC-40 have facilitated the loading of time-sensitive experiments and supplies onto the Cargo Dragon capsule. SpaceX has also implemented an escape chute at the pad to ensure the safety of astronauts and ground crews in emergency scenarios.
Testing New Systems
