Decline in Support for Donald Trump Revealed by Marist Poll

A recent Marist Poll has corroborated previous polling data, indicating a significant decline in support for former President Donald Trump. The results suggest that Trump is experiencing a sharp decrease in backing across various demographics.

Shift in National Voter Preference

According to the Marist National Poll, current standings show a marginal three-percentage-point gap between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump among registered voters nationwide. Biden currently holds 51% of the vote, while Trump stands at 48%. This marks a notable shift from earlier this month when Biden secured 50% of the vote compared to Trump’s 48%. Among definite voters for the upcoming election in November, Biden holds a more substantial lead of 53% over Trump’s 47%.

Loss of Support Among Key Demographics

One of the most significant findings of the poll is Trump’s dwindling support among independent voters and those who harbor unfavorable opinions of both candidates. Independents now show a tie between Trump and Biden, each at 49%. Previously, Trump had a seven-percentage-point lead over Biden with 52% to 45%. Additionally, among voters with unfavorable views towards both candidates, Biden and Trump are now in close competition, with Biden at 50% and Trump at 48%. Previously, Trump held a substantial 15-percentage-point advantage with 54% to Biden’s 39% among this group.

Impact of RFK Jr. on Trump’s Support and Biden’s Lead

A recent NBC News poll highlighted an issue for Trump with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presence in the election. When RFK Jr., along with Cornell West and Jill Stein, is included in the race, Biden leads Trump with 43% against Trump’s 38%, while RFK Jr. secures 14% of the vote. Both Jill Stein and Cornell West have 2% each.

RFK Jr.’s entrance into the race has led to a decline in Trump’s support among Independents from 38% to 30%, while RFK Jr.’s support has seen an increase from 21% to 27%. Biden’s support among Independents remains steady despite RFK Jr.’s candidacy.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been gradually shifting towards more conservative positions, attracting right-wing voters who may have supported Trump in previous elections but are not hardcore supporters. If Trump fails to address the challenge posed by RFK Jr., he risks losing a significant portion of his support to a candidate he indirectly promoted to divide the Democratic vote.

In light of the current trends observed in various polls, it is crucial to note that predictions based on such data should be approached with caution due to the volatility of the political landscape. However, a consistent pattern is emerging where President Biden’s popularity is on the rise, while Trump is facing a rapid decline in support.

With looming uncertainties and potential legal challenges for Trump, the possibility of falling behind RFK Jr. and settling for a third-place finish is becoming a looming reality.
