The Ongoing Invasion of “Alien” Content
As we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the iconic film “Alien,” new additions to the “Alien” universe are on the horizon. Over the next year, fans can expect a plethora of transmedia content to immerse themselves in. Among the upcoming releases is director Fede Álvarez’s “Alien: Romulus,” scheduled to debut in August. Additionally, Marvel comics will continue to expand the story, and a new virtual reality video game titled “Alien: Rogue Incursion” is set to launch in December for PS VR2, Meta Quest 3, and PCVR for Steam.
Developer and publisher Survios, in collaboration with 20th Century Games, is behind the creation of this intense single-player action horror game. Designed for devoted “Alien” fans, the game features an original story that delves deep into the 45-year lore and mythology of the franchise. To give players a taste of what’s to come, an atmospheric teaser trailer was released on Alien Day 2024, followed by a gameplay trailer showcased during Sony’s recent Playstation State of Play event.
Immersive Gameplay Experience
The gameplay trailer teases a thrilling mission where players navigate an industrial facility on the planet LV-354, also known as Purdan. The tension builds as a tracker beeps rhythmically, signaling the presence of xenomorphs. Viewers catch glimpses of the iconic creatures, including a xenomorph and a facehugger emerging from their eerie eggs, reminiscent of the franchise’s classic horror elements.
“As reverent fans of the franchise, we know that any ‘Alien’ video game begins and ends with its deadly xenomorphs, and those encountered within ‘Alien: Rogue Incursion’ are definitely ferocious, unpredictable, and terrifying,” said Survios chief product officer TQ Jefferson in a PlayStation blog post.
Jefferson further explained, “Dynamically spawning and pathing with countless unique possibilities, even we couldn’t tell you exactly where and when each xenomorph will strike, let alone what strategies it might use or if it’ll bring some friends.”

While combat is at the core of ‘Alien: Rogue Incursion,’ the game encourages players to think strategically. Simply blasting through every encounter may not always be the best approach. With resourceful and unpredictable xenomorphs constantly hunting the player, creativity and environmental awareness become essential tools for survival.
