Biden Administration Expands Affordable Care Act Coverage to DACA Recipients

President Biden recently announced a significant policy change that will expand Affordable Care Act coverage to DACA recipients. This move, detailed in a fact sheet released by the White House, is expected to benefit more than 100,000 young individuals by granting them access to health insurance.

Starting in November, DACA recipients will be able to apply for coverage through HealthCare.gov and state-based marketplaces. Financial assistance will also be available to help them purchase quality health insurance, with four out of five consumers finding plans for less than $10 a month. On average, millions of individuals are projected to save about $800 yearly on their premiums.

Commitment to DACA Recipients

The new rule reflects President Biden’s unwavering commitment to DACA recipients and Dreamers, acknowledging their contributions to society. Since the beginning of his administration, President Biden has prioritized preserving and strengthening DACA, despite the need for Congress to provide Dreamers with permanent status and a pathway to citizenship.

In a statement, President Biden emphasized the positive impact of the DACA program, highlighting how it has enabled over 800,000 Dreamers to work legally, pursue education, and enhance communities. The President expressed pride in Dreamers’ contributions and underscored the importance of providing them with the support needed to thrive.

Impact on Health and Lives

The rule change not only ensures equal access to health care for DACA recipients but also aims to save lives and improve health outcomes within the community. President Biden’s ongoing efforts to secure permanent status for Dreamers and citizenship pathways reinforce the significance of this policy change in promoting inclusivity and well-being.
