Boston Celtics Celebrate 18th Championship with Duck Boat Parade

The Boston Celtics entered the season with a mission to turn recent playoff heartbreaks into happiness, and they succeeded. Eight months later, the team celebrated their 18th championship with a duck boat parade, a signature Boston tradition.

Joined by a massive crowd, the Celtics marked the 13th championship won this century by one of the city’s franchises in the four major U.S. sports leagues. The parade route took the team through the city streets, starting at TD Garden and passing by iconic landmarks such as City Hall, Boston Common, and Boylston Street before ending at Hynes Convention Center.

For Boston, the sight of the duck boats cruising through the city has become synonymous with sports supremacy. It was a fitting tribute to the Celtics, who recently clinched the NBA title by defeating the Dallas Mavericks in five games.

A Celebration of Unity and Triumph

At a pre-parade rally, All-Star Jayson Tatum expressed his disbelief at the team’s success: “It’s unbelievable. It still doesn’t seem true. But just trying to stay in the moment.” The rally, attended by players, staff, and special guests, set the tone for the festive day ahead.

The Celtics’ unity was a prevailing theme throughout the season, with players breaking every huddle by saying, “Together.” Jaylen Brown highlighted the importance of unity, stating, “Whatever it took for us to win, that’s what I was willing to do.”

For Brown and Tatum, the championship was the culmination of a mission they began after being drafted third overall in previous years. The duo had faced multiple playoff runs before finally reaching the NBA pinnacle this season. Brown, who earned Finals MVP honors, credited his success to his “partner in crime,” Tatum.

A Bright Future Ahead

Looking ahead, the Celtics are in a strong position to defend their title, aiming to become the NBA’s first back-to-back champions since 2018. With all five starters under contract for next season and plans to secure long-term extensions for key players, the team’s future looks promising.

As the parade concluded, reserve player Luke Kornet led fans in a countdown from one to 18, symbolizing the team’s rich history of championships. The message from the Celtics to the city was clear: keep the duck boats gassed up for future celebrations.
