Gizmodo Monday Puzzle: April Fool’s Edition

Throughout the first 35 installments of the Gizmodo Monday Puzzle, a promise was made: puzzles presented would not be gimmicky, but would genuinely test your problem-solving skills. However, in light of April Fool’s Day, it’s time to break that rule and introduce a touch of trickery into the mix.

Imagine a scenario where two U.S. coins add up to 30 cents, with one of them not being a nickel. The question posed seems straightforward, but the answer may surprise you: a quarter and a nickel, where one of them is not the nickel in question. This type of brainteaser may bring a smile to your face, akin to a dad joke.

The realm of puzzles is vast, filled with both genuine challenges and playful riddles that aim to trick the mind. While the satisfaction of outsmarting a trick question is undeniable, it’s equally important to trust the source of the puzzle at hand. Mixing authentic puzzles with deceptive queries could lead to a constant state of suspicion, detracting from the joy of genuine problem-solving.

Weekly Puzzles:

  • A rope ladder hangs from a ship, its rungs gradually being submerged by the rising tide. How long will it take for the bottom nine rungs to be underwater?
  • Which is worth more: a gallon of nickels or half a gallon of dimes?
  • A man takes three left turns from home and encounters two masked individuals upon his return. Who are these mysterious figures?
  • Meet Chloe Smith and Zoe Smith, two individuals who share the same parents and birthdate. Despite their similarities, they are not twins. How is this possible?
  • Delve into a genuine puzzle amidst the trickery – a sequence that always leads to the number 1, regardless of the starting point. Can you decipher the logic behind this curious pattern?
