Leon Draisaitl Downplays Remarkable Saves by Arturs Silovs

During the intense clash between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks in Game 3 of their second-round series, Arturs Silovs, the Canucks’ goaltender, showcased a stellar performance by making an impressive 42 saves. Despite Silovs’ remarkable efforts, Leon Draisaitl, a prominent figure for the Oilers, appeared unfazed by the Latvian netminder’s outstanding display

An Impressive Defensive Display

The Oilers dominated the game in terms of shots on goal, outshooting the Canucks 45-18. Nevertheless, they struggled to convert these chances into goals, hitting the post on multiple occasions. Draisaitl, when asked about their missed opportunities, attributed it to the team’s failure to capitalize on their looks.

Despite the exceptional performance by Silovs, the Oilers did not contemplate altering their offensive strategy to counter the 23-year-old’s brilliance. Draisaitl expressed confidence in their offensive prowess, stating that they have sufficient firepower to breach Silovs’ defenses.

Kris Knoblauch, the head coach of the Oilers, acknowledged Silovs’ crucial saves but also highlighted the missed opportunities by his team, with several shots hitting the goalposts or lying behind the goaltender.

Silovs Has the Last Laugh

In a surprising turn of events, Silovs emerged victorious as the Canucks secured a 4-3 win in Game 3. When questioned about a particular save on Draisaitl, Silovs humorously responded, “Which one?”, adding a playful twist to the post-game banter between the players.

Although Silovs clarified that he genuinely did not recall the exact save being referenced, his stellar performance against a superstar like Draisaitl cannot be understated. Since stepping into the crease due to injuries to Demko and DeSmith, Silovs has been a reliable presence for the Canucks, registering an impressive 0.908 save percentage and 2.66 goals-against average in six appearances.

Looking Ahead to Game 4

As the series progresses to Game 4, the Oilers will need to address the challenge posed by Silovs and their struggles to convert scoring opportunities into goals. The upcoming match on Tuesday presents an opportunity for Edmonton to overcome the formidable goaltending of Silovs and potentially alter the course of the series.
