Kaylee Gain’s Road to Recovery

Kaylee Gain is currently in a stable condition and has regained the ability to breathe independently, just two weeks after being viciously attacked by Maurnice Declue, a violent teenager who repeatedly slammed her head into concrete. This brutal assault occurred merely minutes away from their high school, leaving Gain critically injured with a fractured skull, resulting in brain bleeding and swelling. The full extent of her injuries will only be fully understood once she awakens from this traumatic experience.

A family member shared an update on their GoFundMe fundraiser, expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received. Gain’s breathing stability and transfer out of the ICU were highlighted as positive developments. The family expressed profound appreciation for the outpouring of prayers and assistance during this difficult time.

Legal Response and Advocacy

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has advocated for DeClue to face trial as an adult, denouncing the act as an abhorrent display of disregard for human life. Expressing solidarity with the victim, Bailey emphasized the necessity for severe consequences for the perpetrator. Should Gain’s condition worsen to the point of fatality, Bailey urges that the offense be escalated to a homicide charge, emphasizing the gravity of the crime.

Amidst these legal proceedings, the family of DeClue has taken an unexpected stance, portraying her as the true victim in this scenario. A fundraising campaign and petition orchestrated by her aunt advocate for leniency and understanding towards the attacker. The petition underscores DeClue’s purported history of being a victim of harassment and bullying, citing a recent incident where self-defense was allegedly employed. They sought financial backing for her defense, aiming to secure $150,000 through GoFundMe.

However, this initiative was abruptly terminated by the fundraising platform due to a breach of its terms of service, having amassed $3,000 prior to its removal.
