Kyle Nelson to Face Calvin Kattar in UFC Fight Night

Canadian featherweight Kyle “The Monster” Nelson is set to take on Calvin “The Boston Finisher” Kattar, who is ranked ninth among UFC 145-pound contenders. The fight is scheduled for a Sept. 7 UFC Fight Night event in Las Vegas.

Kattar holds a record of 23-8-0 and has headlined six UFC cards during his 13-fight run in the promotion. Despite his experience, Kattar has faced tough competition in his recent fights, losing his last three bouts and four of his last five.

In his most recent fight at UFC 300 in April, Kattar lost to former 145-pound champion Aljamain “Funk Master” Sterling. Prior to that, he suffered a TKO loss to Arnold Allen due to a knee injury and lost a split decision to Josh Emmett.

Recent Performances

Kattar’s last victory came against Giga “Ninja” Chikadze, following a decision loss to former champion Max “Blessed” Holloway. Known for his exciting fighting style, Kattar has earned five fight-of-the-night bonuses in the UFC.

On the other hand, Nelson, with a record of 16-5-1, is currently on a four-fight unbeaten streak, with wins over notable opponents such as Bill “Senior Perfecto” Algeo, Fernando “The Brave” Padilla, and Blake “El Animal” Bilder. He also secured a draw against “The Korean Superboy” Doo Ho Choi.

Although Nelson had previously lost four of his five UFC bouts, he has shown significant improvement in his recent performances. The 33-year-old fighter, hailing from Huntsville, Ont., has also trained in Stoney Creek, Ont.

Upcoming Challenge

Following his latest victory, Nelson called out American fighter Nate “The Train” Landwehr. Now, with the opportunity to face Kattar, Nelson is looking to prove himself once again. Choi, who Nelson faced before, had a successful run in the UFC with five performance bonuses in his last five fights.

Nelson has competed in both lightweight (155 pounds) and featherweight (145 pounds) divisions. His UFC debut at UFC 231 in December 2018, where he faced Diego Ferreira on short notice, was at 155 pounds.

With Nelson’s versatility and Kattar’s experience, the upcoming fight promises to be a thrilling showdown between two skilled featherweight competitors.
