Reps. Comer and Jordan Make Embarrassing Criminal Referrals of Hunter and James Biden
Recently, Reps. James Comer and Jim Jordan have made criminal referrals of Hunter and James Biden to the Department of Justice for alleged false testimony. In a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, Comer and Jordan stated that both Hunter and James Biden made materially false statements to the Oversight Committee and the Judiciary Committee.
The evidence presented in the referral suggests that the false statements made by Hunter and James Biden implicate Joe Biden’s knowledge and involvement in his family’s alleged influence peddling. For instance, Hunter Biden denied his affiliation with the Rosemont Seneca Bohai Bank Account, which received funds from foreign individuals who had met with Joe Biden.
Additionally, James Biden denied the occurrence of a meeting involving Joe Biden, James Biden, Hunter Biden, and Tony Bobulinski for a Chinese transaction, despite evidence suggesting otherwise. The Committees recommend charging both Hunter and James Biden under various statutes for their false statements.
Evidence and Criticism
The primary evidence cited by Comer and Jordan is the testimony of Tony Bobulinski, a former Trump campaign asset. However, Bobulinski himself admitted during his testimony that he had no evidence of Joe Biden engaging in any wrongdoing.
Many critics have pointed out that the criminal referrals lack credible evidence to support their conclusions. The timing of these referrals, following Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 felonies, raises suspicions of political motives behind the actions of Comer and Jordan.
It is expected that Attorney General Garland will dismiss these referrals as they are seen as an abuse of power and a partisan attempt to divert attention from other pressing issues.
