Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Sues Meta for Election Interference
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an Independent Presidential Candidate, along with the political action committee supporting his candidacy, American Values 2024 (AV24), has taken legal action against Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, accuses Meta of violating the First Amendment and interfering in the election process.
The legal complaint focuses on the censorship of a 30-minute biographical film titled “Who Is Bobby Kennedy?” narrated by actor Woody Harrelson. The film, which delves into RFK Jr.’s life, his environmental activism, and his reasons for running for President, was allegedly censored on the Meta platforms after its release on May 3. Users reported being unable to share or post about the film, receiving conflicting explanations and threats of consequences for attempting to do so.
In response, the lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages from Meta, as well as an injunction to prevent further interference with the distribution of “Who Is Bobby Kennedy?” The legal action targets not only Meta but also related entities and Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of the social media giant.
