The Sandbox Game Maker 0.10 Overview

The Sandbox has recently rolled out its latest version of Game Maker, version 0.10, as a follow-up to the successful launch of Game Maker 0.9 in December of the previous year.

Enhancements and New Tools

Game Maker 0.10 introduces a range of new tools and enhancements, coinciding with the commencement of Builders Bootcamps that aim to educate and empower community members. This version focuses on three primary categories for improvement: behaviors, rules, and the creation process.

New Behaviors

One of the main highlights of Game Maker 0.10 is the addition of new behaviors to enhance the overall gaming experience. Notable additions include the Spawn Point Behavior and Projectile Behavior. The Spawn Set Behavior necessitates players to spawn in different locations, form teams, and customize equipment. Additionally, the Team Broadcast feature allows players to disseminate messages to all teams within the environment. Projectile Behavior, on the other hand, enables players to set parameters such as force, trajectory, visibility, collider size, and gravity for projectiles, adding a strategic element to gameplay.

Moreover, Game Maker 0.10 introduces the Raycast Component, Consumables, and Multi & Void features. Consumables offer players the ability to trigger reactions upon consuming items, allowing for the creation of various potions and power-ups.

Advanced Rules

Game Maker 0.10 also introduces new rules to facilitate smarter design choices. The Math Rule permits players to perform complex mathematical operations involving time and number variables. The New and Enhanced HUD Rule allows for the incorporation of variables in the HUD in the form of progress bars, values, or percentages. Key Input Rule enables players to set up responses for number keys and mouse buttons, enhancing game mechanics and controls. The Send Message and On Player Join/Exit Trigger Rules enable players to communicate messages and trigger events when players enter or exit the gaming experience.

Streamlined Creation Process

Furthermore, Game Maker 0.10 incorporates upgraded tools to streamline the creation process. The New Hierarchy Panel enhances game organization with improved hierarchy management capabilities, addressing known issues from the previous version.

Additional tools featured in Game Maker 0.10 include Exporting and Importing Rules, Grid Enhancements, L2 Support, and New Home Screen Features, all aimed at providing users with a seamless and enriched creation experience.

Overall, Game Maker 0.10 promises to foster creativity and innovation within The Sandbox community by offering a plethora of new features and tools to explore and utilize in game development.
