The Latest in Crypto Games: Hamster Kombat, GTA 6, and McDonald’s Metaverse

The crypto and NFT gaming space is buzzing with activity, from new game releases to token airdrops and more. To help you stay informed, Decrypt’s GG presents This Week in Crypto Games, a roundup of the biggest news and highlights from the past week.

Biggest News

Hamster Kombat Explodes: The Telegram-based game Hamster Kombat has taken the crypto world by storm, boasting over 100 million players. This number is staggering, representing about 1/9 of Telegram’s entire user base. The game’s popularity has led to the largest official Telegram channel and high demand for in-game rewards. The Hamster Kombat team announced plans for a token launch on The Open Network (TON) in July, exciting players for the upcoming airdrop.

GTA 6’s ‘Buy BTC’ Leak: Speculation about Grand Theft Auto incorporating cryptocurrency intensified when a leaked GTA 6 trailer featured a “BUY BTC” message. However, further investigation revealed that the message was added by the leaker. While the trailer leak caused a stir, there is no confirmation that Bitcoin will be in the game. Leaked messages between the leaker and associates shed light on the trailer’s unauthorized release.

McDonald’s Metaverse: McDonald’s has entered the metaverse with a game in Singapore, offering exclusive features to owners of the 2,000 Grimace NFTs released last year in the country. Token-gating allows NFT holders to access special in-game content, creating a unique experience for McDonald’s fans.
