Minnesota Timberwolves Making Accommodations for Coach Finch After Knee Surgery

The Minnesota Timberwolves are diligently preparing for their upcoming Western Conference semifinal series in Denver, with a key focus on ensuring that head coach Chris Finch can be present despite undergoing knee surgery. Assistant coach Micah Nori has assumed temporary leadership as Finch recovers from a successful procedure to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee.

One of the primary challenges faced by the team is creating a seating arrangement on the cramped bench that allows Finch to have his leg extended and remain safe from potential on-court hazards such as loose balls or player collisions. Discussions have included the possibility of relocating the head athletic trainer’s seat to provide Finch with the necessary space.

If the logistics of the bench prove to be too restrictive, Finch may opt to join the team in the locker room for pregame and halftime meetings and observe the games from a suite above the court. Despite the potential hurdles, the Timberwolves are optimistic about maintaining their on-court performance throughout Finch’s absence.

Point guard Mike Conley commended the team’s ability to adapt, noting the valuable balance between Finch’s seriousness and Nori’s approach. Conley, recently named the NBA’s Teammate of the Year, emphasized the team’s confidence in Nori’s leadership during this period.

While Finch finished third in the NBA Coach of the Year voting, the team remains focused on collective effort and player performance to drive success in the upcoming series. The incident leading to Finch’s injury occurred during a victorious Game 4 against Phoenix, marking a historic moment for the Timberwolves.
