Trump Aide and Lawyers Charged in Wisconsin Fake Elector Scheme
A recent report from The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel revealed that Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul has filed felony forgery charges against an aide and two attorneys linked to former President Donald Trump. These charges stem from their involvement in a plan to manipulate the results of the 2020 presidential election by submitting false slates of electors for Trump.
Kaul took legal action in Dane County Circuit Court against Kenneth Chesebro, a Wisconsin native and key figure behind the fake elector scheme in 2020. Additionally, former Dane County Judge Jim Troupis, who represented Trump in Wisconsin during the election, and Mike Roman, a former Trump aide, are facing charges for their roles in the orchestrated plan.
Across several swing states, including Georgia, Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Michigan, individuals involved in similar fake elector plots have been criminally charged. Notably, Pennsylvania fake electors avoided legal consequences by including disclaimers on their forms, implying their actions were contingent on the state’s election results being overturned.
With criminal charges now filed in five out of the seven swing states from the 2020 election, questions arise about the potential impact on voters. Despite the media’s focus on national implications, these cases underscore the state-by-state nature of presidential elections.
Trump’s attempt to manipulate election results in 2020, and his reported plans to do so again in 2024, face further scrutiny due to these ongoing legal developments. The accumulation of state-level cases complicates Trump’s efforts to distance himself from the tarnished image associated with electoral fraud allegations.
Looking Ahead
As the legal challenges persist, Trump’s past actions continue to cast a shadow over states crucial to the 2024 election outcome. The unfolding legal proceedings serve as a reminder of the complexities surrounding electoral integrity and the enduring repercussions of attempted manipulation.
