Decision on Vice Presidential Pick
Former President Donald Trump has reportedly informed entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy that he will not be considered as a running mate, as per a recent report.
According to Bloomberg News, Trump personally relayed this decision to Ramaswamy before it was made public. However, Ramaswamy is being contemplated for roles such as Homeland Security secretary. Some of Trump’s associates believe that Ramaswamy’s strong public speaking skills and ethnic background as an Indian-American could help counter criticism pertaining to immigration policies.
Ramaswamy has stood by Trump loyally, even during their clashes in the Republican primary. Upon exiting the race, Ramaswamy swiftly endorsed and actively supported Trump’s campaign.
Trump is said to be in search of a potential running mate who prioritizes practical contributions over seeking the spotlight, aiming for an advantage in the competition against President Joe Biden. Trump’s inner circle has expressed dissatisfaction with the existing list of potential candidates, with the roster of prospective choices expanding rather than narrowing as per individuals close to the former president.
Cabinet Considerations
The report also suggests that former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is being eyed for the position of chief of staff. McCarthy had declined this role during Trump’s previous administration due to his aspirations of becoming Speaker.
Furthermore, the report mentions North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Representative Elise Stefanik, and former US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer as individuals under consideration for various cabinet positions in the administration.
