Ubisoft’s Latest Game Release

Apple has been vigorously advocating for the idea that players can attain a console-like, triple-A gaming experience on their latest iPhones over the past year. The latest litmus test for this assertion comes in the form of Ubisoft’s eagerly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Mirage. With the announcement of a scheduled release and pricing details, gamers worldwide are eager to explore what this game has to offer.

Release Date and Platforms

According to Ubisoft, Mirage is set to land on compatible iPhones such as the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max on the 6th of June. However, a slight discrepancy exists with the App Store listing indicating a release date of June 10. The proximity of this release date to Apple’s annual developer conference suggests that Mirage might receive acknowledgment during the event. Moreover, Ubisoft has announced that the game will also be available on the iPad Air and iPad Pro models equipped with an M1 chip or later.

Gameplay and Features

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will offer players a chance to delve into the game for free with a 90-minute trial period. Subsequently, players will need to pay $50 to continue playing, a pricing structure in line with the game’s cost on PC and consoles. The game will support cross-progression, allowing players to seamlessly switch between platforms by signing into Ubisoft Connect. While this feature has received mixed reviews among players, the flexibility it offers in carrying over saves across different platforms adds a layer of convenience for dedicated gamers.

The importance of cross-progression cannot be understated, especially considering the game’s previous release on other platforms several months ago. Players who have already invested time in exploring the story on other platforms will find it advantageous to continue their journey on Mirage for iOS.

Game Overview

Assassin’s Creed Mirage marks the latest addition to a franchise that has produced over a dozen mainline games. Unlike its recent predecessors like Odyssey and Valhalla, known for expanding the franchise’s gameplay mechanics into a sprawling open-world RPG experience, Mirage takes players back to the stealth-focused roots of the series. Originally conceived as downloadable content (DLC) for Valhalla, Mirage has since evolved into a standalone game offering players a more focused and immersive gameplay experience.

While Mirage represents a new chapter in the Assassin’s Creed saga, it is not the first high-profile game to make its way to the iPhone 15 and later models. Popular titles such as Resident Evil 4’s remake and Resident Evil Village have debuted on mobile platforms, showcasing the growing potential for console-quality gaming on iOS devices. Additionally, titles like No Man’s Sky, Death Stranding, and Baldur’s Gate 3 have successfully made the transition to Apple Silicon Macs, further demonstrating the expanding horizons of mobile gaming.

Performance and Controls

Initial testing of Resident Evil titles on the iPhone 15 revealed promising graphics and performance, rivaling what players might experience on a PlayStation 4 Pro, a mid-range gaming laptop, or a Steam Deck. However, the touch controls fell short of expectations, necessitating the use of a compatible controller for an optimal gaming experience. Fortunately, iOS supports a wide range of controllers, including PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, and attachable controllers like the Razer Kishi, ensuring that players can enjoy Assassin’s Creed Mirage with their preferred gaming setup.
