Chris Gotterup Takes Lead After Second Round at Myrtle Beach Classic

Chris Gotterup surged ahead in the second round of the PGA Tour’s Myrtle Beach Classic with an impressive 7-under 64, finishing the day with a one-stroke lead over Robert MacIntyre in South Carolina. After a solid front nine that included two birdies and a bogey at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club, Gotterup showcased his skills on the back nine, carding a remarkable 6-under 30 in challenging windy conditions. He closed out the round with a flourish, birdieing the final four holes, including a stunning 50-foot putt on the par-3 17th and a 17-footer on the par-4 18th from the fringe.

Reflecting on his strong finish, Gotterup, a former University of Oklahoma standout, emphasized his focus on executing shots with precision under tough conditions. The 24-year-old rising star, still in search of his first PGA Tour victory, expressed satisfaction with his performance in the face of the challenging weather. With a cumulative score of 12-under 130, Gotterup positioned himself as the frontrunner heading into the weekend.

In his pursuit of a breakthrough win, Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre remained close behind Gotterup after a solid round of 67, following his opening round of 64. The young talent acknowledged the difficulty of sustaining a strong performance after a stellar start but expressed confidence in his ability to navigate the course effectively.

Among the contenders in the field, Jorge Campillo of Spain continued to impress with his consistent play, carding a second consecutive 66 to reach 10 under for the tournament. Beau Hossler, Alex Smalley, Davis Thompson, and Alistair Docherty were also in contention at 9 under, setting the stage for an exciting finish at the Myrtle Beach Classic.
