Connecticut Sun Defeat Washington Mystics for Ninth Straight Win

In a commanding performance, the Connecticut Sun secured their ninth consecutive victory by defeating the winless Washington Mystics with a final score of 76-59. This win solidified the Sun’s position as the seventh team in WNBA history to start a season with nine straight wins, a feat that has previously led all six teams to the WNBA finals.

DeWanna Bonner led the Sun with an impressive performance, contributing 20 points and eight rebounds. Brionna Jones also played a vital role, adding 15 points to the team’s winning effort. Connecticut’s next challenge will be against the New York Liberty on Saturday, where they aim to extend their streak and potentially become the fourth team in WNBA history to start 10-0.

On the other side, the Washington Mystics continue to struggle, setting a franchise record with nine consecutive losses to start the season. Despite their efforts, they were unable to overcome the Sun’s dominance. The Mystics will now return home to face the Chicago Sky on Thursday, hoping to secure their first win of the season.

Key Players and Turning Points

Throughout the game, Tyasha Harris showcased her skills, contributing 14 points to the Sun’s victory. Alyssa Thomas also had a notable performance, recording seven points, seven rebounds, and seven assists. Meanwhile, DeWanna Bonner’s consistent excellence was highlighted once again as she reached the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season.

For the Mystics, rookie Aaliyah Edwards stood out with a season-high 14 points and nine rebounds. Myisha Hines-Allen also made a solid contribution with 10 points. Despite their individual efforts, the team struggled to match the Sun’s intensity.

The game’s momentum shifted in the third quarter when the Sun outscored the Mystics 26-10, taking firm control of the match. Washington’s shooting woes were evident as they went 2 of 15 from the field in the quarter, including an 0-8 shooting performance inside the arc. Ultimately, the Mystics finished with a season-low point total, unable to stage a comeback against the dominant Sun.
