DC’s Supergirl Movie Set to Debut in June 2026
DC Comics and its beloved Kryptonians are gearing up to dominate the big screen once again, this time over two consecutive summers. The highly anticipated Superman film helmed by James Gunn is currently in production and is slated for release on July 11, 2025. Following this, fans will be treated to another installment in the DC universe with the arrival of Supergirl: World of Tomorrow on June 26, 2026.
A New Director Takes the Helm
The upcoming Supergirl film will be directed by Craig Gillespie, known for his work on “Cruella.” Stepping into the titular role is Milly Alcock from HBO’s “House of the Dragon.” The announcement of the film’s release date was made by Warner Bros, signaling another exciting addition to its lineup of upcoming projects.
Upcoming Films from Warner Bros
In addition to Supergirl, Warner Bros also revealed several other films set to enthrall audiences in the coming years. These include:
- Mortal Kombat 2 – October 24, 2025
- Companion by Drew Hancock – January 10, 2025
- Weapons directed by Zach Cregger – January 16, 2026
- Margie Claus – an animated feature arriving on November 5, 2027
Additional films in the pipeline include a New Line horror film scheduled for March 27, 2026, a family event film on December 18, 2026, a New Line production on December 25, 2026, and a Warner Bros Pictures Animation/Locksmith film on March 26, 2027. The news was reported by Deadline.
Exploring the Supergirl Universe
Of all the upcoming projects, Supergirl stands out as a marquee release, marking the second official DC film to be dated under James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe. Based on Tom King’s 2022 series of the same name, Gunn and Safran’s vision for the film, announced in 2023, promises a fresh take on the iconic character. Describing Supergirl’s backstory, Gunn shared, “Superman was sent to Earth and he was raised by incredibly loving parents, whereas Carol was in a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet and lived there for the first 14 years of her life…a much harsher and more complex Supergirl.”
Rumors suggest that Supergirl may make her on-screen debut in Gunn’s Superman film, currently in production. Fans eager to learn more about these exciting developments can anticipate possible revelations at Comic-Con in July.
