Edin Terzić Steps Down as Borussia Dortmund Head Coach

Despite guiding Borussia Dortmund to an unexpected Champions League final earlier this month, Edin Terzić has announced his departure as the team’s head coach. In a heartfelt statement, Terzić expressed his gratitude to the club and its supporters.

“Dear Borussians, even though it hurts me brutally right now, I would like to let you know that I will be leaving BVB as of today,” said Terzić. “It was a huge honor to lead this great club to a German Cup victory and, most recently, to a Champions League final.”

After a 2-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final, where goals from Vinícius Júnior and Dani Carvajal sealed Dortmund’s fate, Terzić felt it was time for a new chapter at the club.

“After our final at Wembley, I asked those in charge for a chat because after ten years at BVB, five of them as part of the coaching team and two and a half as head coach, I feel that the upcoming new start should be accompanied by a new man on the touchline,” explained Terzić.

Continued Success and Challenges Ahead

During his tenure, Terzić led Dortmund to a fifth-placed finish in the Bundesliga in the 2023-24 season, securing qualification for next year’s top-tier continental competition. However, the previous campaign saw Dortmund narrowly miss out on the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich on the final day of the season.

Terzić, who had been with the club since 2018 in various roles before becoming head coach in 2022, leaves behind a legacy of hard work and dedication to Borussia Dortmund.

Although his departure marks the end of an era, the club now faces the challenge of finding a new head coach to lead them to further success in the future.
