Desperation Among House Republicans
House Republicans find themselves in a state of desperation as they shift their focus towards investigating President Biden for various factors related to the origins of COVID-19.
New Targets for Oversight
According to a report by Politico, their impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden is losing momentum. In response, House Republicans are now aiming to scrutinize a broader range of oversight targets, in the hopes of uncovering information that might undermine the president’s standing in an election year.
Their quest for a fresh line of attack appears somewhat disorganized, encompassing issues such as the alleged inadequacy of the administration’s approach towards countering the Chinese Communist Party, the origins of Covid-19, the handling of liquified natural gas exports and the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, as well as potential irregularities in the appointment of John Podesta as the new climate envoy.
Rewriting History
One major obstacle in their investigation into Biden’s role in the origins of COVID-19 is the timing of the pandemic. The COVID-19 outbreak occurred during the presidency of Donald Trump, not Biden.
It seems evident that House Republicans are attempting to revise historical facts by placing blame on President Biden for the origins of COVID-19, despite him not holding office at the time. Certain members of Congress, like Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), have long espoused theories of a cover-up regarding the virus’ origins.
It is likely that House Republicans will delve further into the complexities surrounding COVID-19, both to damage Biden’s reputation and to attract support away from anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists, and Independent presidential candidate RFK Jr.
Running Out of Time
The majority party in the House is facing a time crunch. Initially banking on the notion of impeaching Biden for imagined offenses, their plan backfired, leaving them without a contingency strategy. Consequently, in the lead-up to the November elections, one can anticipate a flurry of conspiracy theories being hurled by House Republicans in a bid to sway public opinion before the polls.
