The Washington Post described it as a “promising mess,” while Wired criticized it as “too bare bones,” clunky, and limited.

Marketed as an AI-powered personal assistant, the Humane AI Pin boasted features such as a large-language model (LLM) and a palm-pointing display. Designed to be attached to clothing with a magnetized battery pack, its hefty price tag of $699 plus a $24 monthly subscription fee set high expectations for its functionality.
The vision behind wearable AI technology is to create a hands-free experience for accessing personal and global information, ushering in a post-smartphone era. However, the reality painted by the Humane AI Pin’s reviews suggests that this futuristic ideal remains out of reach. Critics found the user experience frustrating, labeling the device as impractical and likening it to the failed promises of Theranos.
Unanimous Disappointment
Notable reviewers such as Arun Maine and Marques Brownlee highlighted various flaws of the device. Maine emphasized its high cost and dependency on internet connectivity, making it unreliable in areas with poor signal. In response to the wave of negative feedback, Humane announced upcoming upgrades for the device, including nutrition advice, improved voice settings, and enhanced messaging features. A software development kit (SDK) is also in the works to expand the device’s capabilities through third-party app development.
