Lionel Messi Expresses Displeasure with New MLS Rules

Inter Miami’s star player Lionel Messi recently expressed his frustration and anger over the new Major League Soccer regulations that require an injured player to leave the pitch for two minutes. This incident occurred during a recent match against Montréal, where Messi was fouled by defender George Campbell.

In the 40th minute of the game, Campbell’s foul on Messi led to the Argentine forward going down clutching his knee. Despite Miami’s medical staff attending to him, Campbell did not receive a yellow card for the incident. This led to Messi being forced to leave the pitch due to the new MLS rule.

Controversy Surrounding the New Rule

According to the new MLS regulations, if a player remains on the ground for more than 15 seconds and the medical staff enters the field, the player may be required to exit the field for two minutes. This rule impacted Messi’s ability to contribute to his team during a crucial moment in the match.

While on the sideline, Messi expressed his discontent with the rule to the camera, shaking his head in displeasure. Inter Miami’s coach, Gerardo Martino, also voiced his team’s frustration with the new regulations, stating that certain aspects of the rule need to be reviewed.

Additional Rule Challenges Faced by Inter Miami

Inter Miami encountered another challenge with the new rules when Luis Suárez failed to leave the field in under 10 seconds during a substitution. This delay forced Miami to play with 10 men in the final minutes of the match, impacting their performance.

Despite the challenges faced due to the new regulations, Inter Miami managed to secure a victory over Montréal, maintaining their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference table. With 27 points in 13 games and an impressive 8-2-3 record, the team continues to demonstrate their resilience and determination amidst rule changes and controversies.
