During the Arizona Coyotes’ last home game of the season at Mullett Arena, former player Shane Doan was pleasantly surprised by a gesture from a devoted fan. Doan, who had his number retired by the Coyotes back in February 2019, was presented with a gift that he likely never anticipated to encounter again.
Having spent his entire illustrious 1,570-game career with the Winnipeg Jets-Arizona Coyotes organization, Doan became a beloved figure both on and off the ice. As the team’s longtime captain, he amassed an impressive 402 goals and 972 points, leaving an indelible mark on the franchise.
Following his retirement in 2017, Doan transitioned to a role within the NHL front office before eventually returning to the Coyotes in 2021 as the chief hockey development officer. However, this partnership came to an end in September 2022, leading Doan to embark on a new chapter with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Currently serving as a special advisor to general manager Brad Treliving, Doan continues to contribute his wealth of knowledge and experience to the hockey world. Despite his departure from the Coyotes organization, his legacy remains deeply ingrained in the hearts of fans and colleagues alike.
