Trust Wallet Advises Apple Users to Deactivate iMessage for Security Reasons

Trust Wallet has recently issued a warning to all Apple users, urging them to deactivate iMessage due to the discovery of a potential zero-day exploit. This decision comes after the company received credible information regarding the misuse of iMessage, which could allow hackers to gain access to iPhones without the need for users to click on any links.

The compromised data is currently being sold on the dark web, with high-level account holders being the primary targets. A zero-day exploit refers to a cyber attack that exploits a previously unknown vulnerability in software or hardware.

Details of the Exploit

Trust Wallet specifically mentioned that crypto wallets on iPhones with iMessage enabled are at risk of falling victim to this exploit. Eowyn Chen, the CEO of Trust Wallet, shared a screenshot showing a potential zero-day exploit being offered for sale for $2 million on the dark web.

The company strongly recommends that users disable iMessage on their devices until Apple releases a security patch to address this issue. While some users may have doubts about the credibility of the information, Trust Wallet emphasized that the source of the information came from their security division, which actively monitors and identifies threats to ensure the safety of crypto wallet users.

Apple has a history of promptly addressing security concerns and recently released emergency updates to address two zero-day vulnerabilities that were exploited in iPhones in March. Security researchers at Kaspersky have identified iMessage as a prime target for hackers, highlighting the importance of taking precautions to safeguard personal data and devices.
