The Biden Campaign Criticizes Trump’s Black Outreach Event
The Biden campaign didn’t hold back in its response to Trump’s recent attempt to attract black voters. They described the event as a “noticeably empty event in front of a white audience,” highlighting what they saw as a lack of genuine effort.
Biden Campaign’s Statement
In a scathing statement, the Biden campaign criticized Trump’s “Black Americans for Trump” coalition rollout. The event, which was supposed to focus on black voters, featured a predominantly white audience. The campaign accused Trump of spreading lies and misinformation about his record with Black Americans.
Jasmine Harris, the Biden-Harris 2024 Director of Black Media, emphasized that Trump’s supposed “many Black friends” couldn’t erase a lifetime of disrespect towards the black community. She pointed out Trump’s past actions, such as calling for the death penalty for the Central Park 5 and promoting racist conspiracy theories about Barack Obama.
Harris stated, “Black voters sent Joe Biden and Kamala Harris to the White House in 2020, and they’re ready to make Donald Trump a two-time loser in 2024.”
Trump’s Alleged Tactics
Reports suggest that Trump’s campaign strategically filled seats at the event with white attendees, further underlining the disconnect between the event’s purpose and its execution.
Despite Trump’s claims of support from the black community, his history of racism, including a housing discrimination lawsuit, raises doubts about his ability to represent all Americans.
Concerns for Biden
While Trump aims to sway black voters, Biden’s main concern lies in ensuring these voters turn out to support him. The President must engage in direct outreach to demonstrate that he is the best candidate to address the community’s needs over the next four years.
