Chipotle’s Innovation in Avocado Cutting

The Autocado robot, designed to cut, core, and peel avocados efficiently, was initially tested by the company in July 2023. During Chipotle’s first-quarter earnings call, CEO Brian Niccol revealed that prototypes of the robot are ready for deployment in restaurants, with plans to introduce them to busy locations later this year.
This technological advancement comes at a time when companies like Chipotle are facing challenges such as California’s new wage hike, which raised the minimum wage from $16 to $20 an hour. To offset the impact of this increase on operating costs, Chipotle has been exploring the use of automation to improve efficiency and reduce labor expenses.
