Rep. Bryan Steil’s Slip-up at Trump Rally
During a recent rally for former President Donald Trump in Wisconsin, Rep. Bryan Steil (R-WI) attempted to criticize President Biden but ended up making a blunder that highlighted Trump’s age instead.
Steil mistakenly stated, “It’s hard to believe. Donald Trump was first elected to the United States Senate when I was negative eight years old. That’s true.” The comment was met with confused silence from the crowd.
Quickly realizing his mistake, Steil corrected himself, “President Biden was elected to the Senate when I was negative eight years old.” However, by then, the moment had passed, and the awkwardness lingered.
Awkward Moments at Trump Rallies
This incident sheds light on the increasingly uncomfortable atmosphere at Trump rallies. Not only is Trump himself known for his memory lapses, but now even his supporters are struggling to differentiate between Biden and Trump.
Compared to the enthusiasm of Trump’s 2016 rallies, the current events seem to carry a sense of fatigue. It’s as if the attendees realize they’ve been treading the same ground for too long. Attempts to inject new energy often backfire, leading to moments like Steil’s blunder.
It’s worth noting that Trump was never a member of the US Senate, making Steil’s error all the more ironic. Interestingly, Steil was only negative four years old when Donald Trump faced a lawsuit from the Justice Department for racial discrimination.
This gaffe serves as a reminder that, no matter how hard Republicans try to use Biden’s age against him, they inadvertently highlight Trump’s advanced years.
