Kaidro: Transition to Ronin and Future Developments

The anime-inspired role-playing game, Kaidro, has recently generated significant buzz since announcing its migration to the Ethereum scaling network Ronin back in February. The success of a free mint in March, which resulted in nearly 350,000 free NFTs claimed by Ronin wallets, set the stage for Kaidro’s premium mint on Ronin this week. This premium mint, featuring 9,999 Spark Suit NFTs, sold out rapidly—with 2,400 units being snapped up in a mere 10 seconds during a public sale. The impressive performance of this mint generated $2 million in revenue and propelled Kaidro to become the third most-traded collection on the popular Mavis Market.

Initially planned for launch on one of Immutable’s Ethereum scaling networks, the decision was made to reroute Kaidro to Ronin instead, following an investment from Ethereum scaling network Polygon. However, subsequent developments, including a partnership between Immutable and Polygon to co-develop Immutable zkEVM, prompted a change in Kaidro’s direction.

Shift to Ronin and Collaboration with Sky Mavis

According to Kaidro co-creator Robert Simons, Polygon had originally intended to focus more on gaming independently. However, the collaboration with Immutable led to Kaidro being transitioned to Immutable’s oversight, which resulted in a perceived decrease in engagement from the Kaidro team’s perspective. The fortuitous meeting between the Kaidro team and Sky Mavis co-founder Jeffery “Jihoz” Zirlin in Japan marked a turning point. Both parties shared a mutual passion for blockchain gaming and a vision for the future of the industry.

Zirlin expressed initial disappointment upon discovering that Kaidro was already building on a different blockchain, as he recognized the team’s potential to excel in the anime PFP/gaming niche. The seamless alignment between Kaidro and Sky Mavis was characterized by authentic communication and a shared enthusiasm for their collaboration.

Future Prospects and Game Features

Following this successful partnership, Kaidro is preparing for a closed alpha launch of its Clan Battles game within the upcoming weeks, exclusively accessible to Spark Suit NFT holders. Despite being a story-driven RPG, Kaidro’s current focus lies in refining the game mechanics, with the narrative element slated for introduction at the official launch.

Unlike many Web3 games, Kaidro will be available on Steam, representing a departure from the trend of blockchain games launching on Epic Games Store or through blockchain-centric platforms. The free-to-play game will not require any Web3 integrations, allowing players to enjoy it without engaging with crypto wallets directly. However, by visiting the Kaidro website, players can unlock various Web3 benefits, such as earning rewards and customizing in-game content through NFT attachments.

Although the highly anticipated Kaidro animated project remains a year away from completion following the trailer launch in February, the game launch is poised to expand the comic-based IP to a broader audience. With detailed plans for upcoming seasons and content releases, the Kaidro team is enthusiastic about the future prospects of the project.
