Kyle Lowry Refrains from Discussing NBA Future Following Playoff Exit
After the Philadelphia 76ers were knocked out of the NBA playoffs by the New York Knicks on Thursday, Kyle Lowry, the fifth-oldest active player in the league, chose not to divulge his plans for the upcoming season.
Lowry, at 38 years and 39 days old, ranks only behind Taj Gibson, Chris Paul, P.J. Tucker, and LeBron James in terms of age among NBA players. Following his buyout from the Charlotte Hornets, the Toronto Raptors icon signed a one-year, $2.8 million deal with the 76ers in February. During his 23 regular-season appearances for Philadelphia, Lowry managed to average 8.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists.
This move allowed Lowry to reunite with former Raptors coach Nick Nurse and marked his debut for his hometown 76ers. Furthermore, the opportunity to play alongside stars like Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey was a source of great joy for the seasoned guard. “As a veteran of the league, it was truly gratifying to share the court with these players and be in their presence,” Lowry expressed to CBS’s James Herbert.
Despite his recent playoff exit, Lowry hinted earlier this week that retirement is not on the horizon. In an interview with NBA reporter Marc Spears, he emphasized his pride in joining the ranks of seasoned players like LeBron James. “I conveyed to LeBron the importance of representing the elder statesmen of the game. It’s a rewarding experience to continue contributing and competing alongside such icons,” Lowry remarked.
With his future in the NBA remaining uncertain, it remains to be seen whether the disappointment of this playoff series will influence Lowry’s decision regarding his career continuation.
