While “softer” medium-security prisons like FCI Herlong were once considered more livable, recent shifts in safety have made them less appealing options. Facilities like FCI Victorville Medium, known as “Victimville” due to its history of inmate violence, may also be unsuitable for Bankman-Fried.

Issues such as mental or physical health problems could potentially sway the DSCC’s decision, although previous requests for specific accommodations like Adderall or vegan meals are unlikely to meet the necessary criteria. Ultimately, Bankman-Fried may have to accept the conditions of his assigned prison for the foreseeable future.
