Telegram Introduces Toncoin Payments for In-Platform Advertisements

Telegram, the popular messaging app, made an exciting announcement yesterday regarding a new feature that will allow users to purchase advertisements using Toncoin (TON). This update comes as part of a revenue share program that aims to reward channel owners for their contributions.

Ad Purchases with Toncoin

Users on Telegram will now have the ability to buy in-platform advertisements using Toncoin. Ad budgets can start as low as “a handful of Toncoins.” These ads are intended to promote bots and channels within the Telegram ecosystem. Advertisers will have the freedom to choose the specific channels where their ads will be displayed.

Channel owners with more than 1,000 subscribers will benefit from this new feature by receiving 50% of the revenue generated from ads shown in their channels. This revenue share model incentivizes channel owners to create engaging content and grow their follower base.

Launching Toncoin Payments

This recent update on Toncoin payments for in-platform ads builds upon Telegram’s earlier announcement this year about an ad revenue sharing program. Through this program, advertisers on Telegram can distribute revenue to channel owners using the cryptocurrency as a medium of exchange.

Withdrawals for channel owners will soon be available via Telegram’s Fragment exchange in the upcoming weeks. Channel owners will have the option to withdraw their rewards without incurring any fees. Alternatively, they may choose to reinvest their earnings into Telegram ads, collectible usernames, or Premium giveaways.

Understanding Toncoin

Toncoin, short for Telegram Open Network, was initially conceived as the native currency for the TON blockchain platform and Gram cryptocurrency. However, regulatory challenges, particularly with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), led Telegram to discontinue its involvement in the project. Following a refund to investors, a group of community developers picked up the initiative, rebranding it as The Open Network and introducing Toncoin as its new digital asset.

Telegram’s decision to utilize Toncoin for in-platform ad payments was influenced by its minimal transaction fees and rapid processing speeds. These characteristics enhance the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of conducting ad transactions within the Telegram ecosystem.
